An awe to mice, a wonder to men. What is a hero without a thread?

THE PORCUPINE DILEMMA

Dead of winter, two porcupines and a sheet of snow.
It's a harsh season and I've been feeling so alone
If the piercing ice gets inside and
Swallows our hearts until we're numb
And all that's left of us is taxidermy decor
Posed to perfection, frozen in dejection,
glazed eyes immortalized.
Will you still hesitate to get close?

The tendrils entrench my body like unhealed wounds
Calcified and curved like a glasgow smile.
Protection with a flawed conviction, but a logical conclusion
An endless senseless game of solitaire.

Tell me dear, which is a more tragic fate,
The ache and twinge of intimacy or the paralyzing prick of distance
I am weary and worn out, and you are right there
You look at me with spines spiralling counter-clockwise
Pining for an embrace from a fucked up porcupine
Furiously fanning a flame that's been burning inside.

It's cold and im scared and im lonely
I dont want to hurt you (i dont want to be hurt)
I dont want to die alone (knowing you won't)
It's mother nature's cruel dichotomy
A dichotomy thats part of me,
Carved into my bones.

Look at my eyes, not my quills
Look into my eyes
Do you see it?
Look into them
Look harder
Can you see it?
Do you hate me yet?
Are you hurt enough yet?
